Winter in Dunsley. 29th December 2020.j

"Winter in Dunsley"

Winter in Dunsley

Winter in Dunsley, Kinver, South Staffordshire.  Sometimes a photograph tells the tale better than a painting.  This scene was taken on 29th December 2020 during the very cold snap at the end of 2020 by Mary Ann Schirrmacher.  The temperature has reached minus 5 degrees C in the early hours before this picture was taken.  With the pandemic spreading out of control, the image encapsulates lockdown perfectly.

"Morning Walk"

One of the delights of living in a rural area is the peaceful early morning walk with our dog, Kari - a loveable rescue.  What makes the walks even more pleasureable is the abundance of woodland in which to loose oneself.  The colours of Autumn are glorious in these surroundings (when it's not raining!).  Painted in acrylic 24th October 2020.

Stourton Castle, in South Staffordshire, began life as a hunting lodge in the reign of Henry II.  It became a "Castle" in 1122.  It is located near the centre of the vast former forest, which, in the Middle Ages stretched from the Wyre Forest near Bewdley over to Cannock Chase, north of Birmingham.  It's royal connections lasted for a further 330 years.  It's most famous resident was Cardinal Pole, who was an opponent of Henry VIII over his divorce from Catherine of Aragon and marriage to Ann Boleyn.  See more of the local history, which is on the back of the card.
